Magazine Monday & Happy Birthday to Me!

First of all, it was my birthday last week : ) I had a wonderful day, mostly because Nick made a HUGE sacrifice and stayed home from work all day. It was the best birthday present ever!
Thanks to everyone for your sweet phone calls, Skype songs, e-cards, facebook posts, etc. I have the very best friends and family!
Hostess cupcakes - one of my favorite treats since Jr. High.
(Hey Em B., remember when you got me a whole box of them for my birthday once? YUM!)
Making double birthday wishes.

I'll admit I was a bit spoiled. Not only did I get Nick all day plus cupcakes, but I also got (among other great gifts) the Anne of Green Gables collection on DVD! The best present ever! I have worn out 2 sets of VHS, so it was definitely time for the DVDs. I have watched them at least once a year since my Grandma taped them off of PBS for me when I was around 9.
I LOVE them! Thanks, Nick.

Now to this Monday's project. Today I built a cabinet desk for our living room.
I forgot to take a before picture, so this is a way before picture:
Our "we have a job" gift to ourselves this summer was a new TV and computer. Since we don't have room for a separate office, we planned to use our TV as our computer monitor. It has worked out well, except that our printers have been sitting on the LR floor, and the keyboard and mouse were floating around on a TV dinner tray. Cords were tangled everywhere and it was driving me crazy! My love for multipurpose furniture led me to this gem from World Market.
Here is our new, and much improved, TV stand/computer desk:
It has a spacious keyboard drawer:
Enough space to house both of our printers:
Plus a storage drawer for miscellaneous computer needs and a file drawer:
It took me several hours to put together, and one of the magnet closures needs to be replaced, but I think it turned out to be a nice piece. Nick helped transfer everything over and our cords are now organized and tied neatly together behind the scenes.

Tomorrow's project is to finally get our Christmas decorations up. Tonight I'm going to sit and admire my work while I watch TV and eat another cupcake : )

I always love your ability to organize---so impressive:)

And I am SO sorry I forgot to call on your birthday!! I'm the worst. I even thought of you on the 1st and thought, "I need to remember to call Emily tomorrow" and then totally spaced it. I'm so sorry!! If it helps, I ate a hostess cupcake that day! My dad bought some for my nieces and nephews---but I got some, too:)
