Magazine Monday (on Tuesday)

I had a cold this weekend, so I didn't get anything done to post on Monday. This morning I realized that I never posted some of my Fall decorations from this year, so I'll do that.

I used a $3.00 bag of cinnamon pine cones for these:

I filled a narrow vase and tied it with ribbon. At Christmas, all I have to do is change the ribbon and it's the decoration that keeps on decoring!
On the left, I used a different vase and added a candle. On the right is the beautiful dessert plate mom and Aunt Layna found at Home Goods during their visit which has the perfect border for festive ribbon. Add a turkey from World Market and it's a nice little table centerpiece.
I saw this squirrel at World Market and couldn't resist bringing him home.

Now to the wall in our dining room. When Dad & Dedee were here, they were really great and helped me hang this floating shelf I got from IKEA. I hung it high up so that I could do a photo grouping underneath. I had other plans for the grouping (smaller frames and more symmetrical) but sometimes you've just got to use what you've got. Thanks to Mom & Aunt Layna for helping me hang those when you were here. (That's right, folks. I often use visitors for manual labor - be ware!)
The whole arrangement for fall.
Mr. & Mrs. pilgrim from Nick's Aunt Kathy look right at home next to the Mayflower I got during my Thanksgiving trip to Plymouth, and Nick's ship from his mission in Chile. It's nice to finally have a place to display souvenirs.

This next one is pretty clever, if I do say so myself.
I didn't have anything to put in one of the frames, so I used a wallpaper sample I had until I found something. A few days later, I was deciding where to put the cute gel window clings Nick's mom sends in her holiday packages. I looked up, saw the empty picture frame and decided to try sticking them to the glass.
During October I used the pumpkins and fall leaves she sent last year.
For November it has been the turkey and fall leaves she sent this year.

Here is the wreath I bought last year. Since no one ever uses our front door, I hung it on the inside.
One last random touch. I saw this M&Ms advertisement in a magazine and thought it was amazing. You have to really look close to tell that the leaves are M&Ms.
I hung them on my magnet board in the kitchen to add some color.

Now I'm ready to say farewell to Fall and hello to Christmas!

Emily, I love all of the creative way you are using small items or things you already have available! Thanks for sharing. It was WONDERFUL to see you and Nick on Thanksgiving, but not long enough!

Love your pinecones. I've got a bag of them, but I need a vase or bowl. I have a shallow glittery leaf bowl that I LOVE that was a wedding gift, but there is no way I'm going to put out something I acutally love with Carter living at my house... haha! :) Hope all is well! And I LOVE reading your "magazine monday".
