On Sunday, Nick was set apart as secretary in the Elder's Quorum. We were able to meet with the Stake President for about an hour and have a great talk. Nick will be working with some wonderful people who have already helped us out every time we've needed it.
I've decided to tackle things one room at a time. The first room is the kitchen. We got spoiled at Grandpa's with a pantry for food storage. This place doesn't have a lot of cupboard space, but there is a breakfast nook that we don't plan on using, since there's a dining area. I was inspired by this picture of painted shelves.
I did a lot of online pricing of shelving units, and found some from IKEA that were just the right measurements. We decided on one deep unit and two narrow units. As it happened, there was someone selling two of the narrow sizes online, so we picked those up yesterday. After some sanding, painting and assembly, they'll be ready to stock with food and cookware! Pictures to come once the project is complete. (Don't expect mine to be as organized as the picture)
I spent much of yesterday driving around to various stores. I have stumbled upon two stores I'd never been to that I really like. Home Goods and World Market. We are still trying out grocery stores to find out which we like best. Sadly, the general stores like Target and Wal-Mart are greatly lacking. Granted, we've only tried one location of each, but they are poorly stocked compared to their Utah counterparts. The items are all mixed up on shelves, and they are rarely priced correctly. If any locals have insight into where the best stores are, please share your knowledge.
Nick is working long hours, trying to figure out his new job. I am finding projects to fill up my time. I also got a library card. Apparently you can check things out at any library in MD, DC or No. VA. I'll be scoping out my favorite.

I loved living in that part of the country and exploring!! And I do remember how disappointed I was in the Targets in Virginia. :)
Congrats, Nick! Well, yes, the grocery stores are very different out here. We have found we LOVE Giant - if you get a good location. Targets aren't that hot and I find I rarely go there. What other grocery stores do you have around?
got a Wegman's anywhere near you? I'm not sure how far south they extend, but I do know there are a few in Virginia. Reasonably priced, good selection, lots of gormet type items... great store. :)
way to be resourceful!
