It was a long walk from the parking, but well worth it. You can read in detail what the Festival of Colors is here. In short, it is an Indian celebration to welcome spring. The main event is tossing brightly colored corn starch powder up in the air creating a great rainbow of colors (and of course smearing it on anyone who passes you by). If you live in the area and have never been, you should definitely put it on your calendar for next year.

holy cow that looks like so much fun!!! I for sure want to go next year!
I have 2 random, silly questions...
1. how did the camera survive that?
2. were you able to get the dye out of the cute outfit you were wearing...;P
In answer to the above questions:
1. We purposely used an old camera, so we didn't worry about it too much. There is still powder in all the crevices. It was funny to see how other people had protected their cameras - wrapped in saran wrap, put in sandwich bags with a hole cut for the lens to poke through . . .
2. It took two washes for the colored clothes and they came out okay. The whites are still colored, so we'll have to try a third wash with some bleach.
I hear about this every year and I wanna go someday! Looks like a blast!!
I went to that-it was crazy! I had a white shade tank-top under my shirt and it's forever pink now. Anything colored is fine...anything white, totally purple/pink. That's okay-I could use a pink tank-top:)
Wow! Looks like you had a lot of fun. I saw some people in the grocery store all covered in colored powder. Glad you had fun.
