New Habits Lead to Finished Project #1

At the beginning of 2010, I started out with my typical list of goals. One of those goals was to read my scriptures more regularly. About half-way through the month, I was telling Nick that I was really excited about how well I was doing. January was almost over and I hadn't missed a day yet. Nick mentioned that he read somewhere that it takes about 21 days to develop a habit.

That gave me a new perspective on what I wanted this year. I decided that instead of focusing on goals, I was going to focus on developing better HABITS in my life. Instead of setting a deadline, or counting how many things I could change at once, I decided to take it one habit at a time, and work on it until I felt that it was a well-enough established habit that I could start focusing on another.

Habit #1 - Reading my scriptures every day. 41 days and counting. Go me :)

Habit #2 - Start a project and FINISH it! Currently in progress.

I tend to start projects, or get ideas and either only partially finish them, or not start them all together. This habit will be a hard one for me to break, so it is a work in progress. To help motivate myself, I am going to start posting the unfinished projects I am finally finishing.

Project #1
Organize my sewing and craft room.

While this project in it's entirety is not yet finished (because it is made up of many small projects), it is mostly done which makes me happy.

I bought some furniture knowing that I will not always have a separate room of my own, and I wanted things to look nice in either a bedroom, living room or dining room.

Here is what I ended up with: The painting that was my inspiration for colors and fabrics:
Fabric, photos, ribbon paper and all other scrapbooking items organized in a nice new bookcase:
Cafe curtain used to hide all the stuff, and leave a more finished look to the bookcase (super easy to change the fabric panel whenever I want):
A new sewing table that will look like a nice piece of furniture if used in another room:
The table opened up - there's lots of storage - and my comfy new red chair:

I like the fabric you chose for your bookshelf. It looks good! How did that painting come to land in your hands? I have fond memories of it hanging in the 200 east house.

I love your craft room! I am slightly (ok, really) jealous. Love all of your ideas!
