R.I.P. Reams
The rumors that've been circulating the neighborhood lately are true. Sadly, the Provo Reams store is closing it's doors. The old-fashioned, hand-painted signs speak for themselves:
Why is this such a sad day for me? This is why:
It is really handy living next to a grocery store. Need eggs for those cookies? Out of milk? Did Grandpa forget to tell you that he was out of waffles and there is a breakfast emergency? Never fear, Reams is here!
There are so many elderly people who live in this neighborhood and walk to the store. I don't know how they'll all get their groceries now, since most of them don't drive. Hmmm, possible grocery shopping business opportunity?
I really will be sad to see the store go. My family has a lot of memories tied to that store. When we would visit, Grandma and Grandpa would give us each some money to walk over and get a treat and/or and ice cream. That was always something to look forward to. They also used to have a great fireworks stand where we would buy our snappers and sparklers for the 4th of July. Plus, there have been some great shows to be had while watching out the picture window facing the parking lot. The latest was a teenager who was showing off and got his Jeep stuck right on top of a mound of cleared snow. Yes, we sat in the kitchen with the lights off and watched the whole thing. Nick did go out and offer to help get him down, but the poor kid was so embarrassed that he didn't want the help. Those are a few of the things I'll miss about Reams.
On the plus side, we'll wait for that 20% off sign to get high enough and then go food shopping to our heart's content.
We will miss you Reams.

How nice that you live (lived) so close to a grocery store! How sad! I'm sorry it's closing... it feels like in this economy everything is closing!
By the way, thank you so much for your email! I'm sorry it to me so long to reply... it has been C R A Z Y!
That is super sad! Poor elderly people! I will
miss seeing that store too! Didn't it used to be a skating rink? At least their is the sale! Grandpa should be able to have his groceries ordered online then delivered!
Tha is sad. I have fond memories of that store also.
sad that it's closing. Funny that Bethany and i were just talking about Reams this week. She thought they both were closed and I said this S. Provo was open still. Just think, that same conversation in a month would have had HER in the right. Ha! sorry to see an institution close... :(
Ohh, I had no idea it was closing. I too fondly remember the great bubblegum ice cream cones we would always walk over and get, and the popper at the firework stand! So sad to see it go. Hopefully they put another grocery store there for all the elderly people! At least grandpa still has you guys there to help on those breakfast emergencies!! :)
