At the end of the school year, I had to make the difficult decision of whether or not to teach Kindergarten again this coming year. I ran across a posting for a half-time interior design teaching job and decided that I would apply and see what happened.

Well--I got the job! It is scary going from Kindergarten to High School, but it is a subject that should be a lot of fun to teach. Things are going to be crazy. I will be missing the new teacher orientation as well as the two days of meetings when you actually interact with and meet the rest of the faculty, but what can I do? My classroom was a mess again this year and during the 2 days I had to get things ready, I at least made a dumpster-sized pile of things to throw out. Nick and I will only have 2 more days before school starts to get everything ready for the doors to open. I am hoping for good students (knock on wood)!

I will really miss the faculty and students at Rocky Mountain. I felt like I belonged to a family there, and I know that at the high school I probably won't meet many of the other faculty members. I will be one of the advisers for the student government, so hopefully that will help me get more involved.

I am excited and nervous, but hopefully I can get a lot of planning done while we're here in California. After this year, though, I may never want to teach again ; )

That's exciting! Congrats, Em. When are your two days that you have to clean out?
I have a cousin that is going to that school...he's a wrestler and probly won't be in your class, though:)

Good luck, Emily! You are a brave woman! I hope to hear more about it through the months to come - and pass along any great tips that you teach the kids :) Bethany and David and I thought about you tonight as we watched a little bit of the ol' Hannah Montana!

That is AWESOME! I can't believe it. That will be such a change. But you will do wonderful and you know it. I don't know if I could do a change of grade - it is like a first year all over again and we all know that first year is something we never want to experience...EVER. That is great though. Congrats. You will be the best and I am sure you will enjoy it just as much. Just think...you won't have to tie any more shoes, zip any more coats or say - "did you wash your hands?", "don't hit your neighbor" or "please don't pick your nose" again :) I love those days :) CONGRATS!!

Don't you love how life gets so busy. You will do great teaching High School. It will be better than Kindergarten because it is something that you love and want to teach. Good luck!

It is so great to be able to do what you went to school for. But I have to disagree with Ady, I think you might still end up with days where you are wondering whether they washed there hands, catch them in a quick pick and breaking up "hitting" fights in the halls. Lets pray that I am wrong. Good luck with the change.

Yea! I think it will be a blast! I'm excited for you to be involved with the Student Gov. kids. It'll be so fun helping with all the activites. Busy but fun.

yeah! Teaching half time is nice... I'm glad you got a mildly less overwhelming job (at least this one is what you actually went to school for, right?) =)
